The Stallingborough site has been part of the local industrial landscape for more than 50 years and now employs approximately 360 people, starting as Laporte Industries, then becoming part of the Hanson Group changing its name to SCM Chemicals, then in 1996 it became Millennium Chemicals as part of a New York based company. In 2004 Lyondell acquired Millennium Chemicals Inc and then, more recently , in May 2007 the site was acquired by Cristal Global, a Saudi company, and is now known as Millennium Inorganic Chemicals.
MIC's operations relate to the following four reportable segments: Ethylene, Co-products and derivatives, Propylene oxide and related products, Refining and Inorganic chemical. The operation at Stallingborough is reportable under the Inorganic Chemicals segment.
Since the aquisition Cristal is the world's second largest producer of TiO2, offering state of the art products in all major customer markets, including paints, coatings, plastics and paper.
