CATCH Launch Event Review
21/09/06 #Article/Catch

Written by Paul Lawrence of Humber Chemical Focus (click for more)

CATCH is now officially open. The site is now fully operational. The Centre for Assessment of Technical Competency in the Humber (CATCH) hosted its official launch event on the 19th Sept 2006. The day attracted visitors from a wide range of companies, regions and public sector bodies as well as distinguished guests: Sir Digby Jones and Cllr Margaret Thompson (Mayor for the Borough of NE Lincs). The formal proceedings began with a welcoming introduction from Cllr Margaret Thompson, Mayor of the Borough of NELincs. Terry Hodgkinson, Chair of Yorkshire Forward, helped Chair the whole event and provided a light hearted introduction as to how the CATCH concept came about.

Following on from Mr Hodgkinson, the current Chair of Humber Chemical Focus, Gareth James (General Manager of BP Saltend) provided an industry prospective as why the CATCH concept and HCF operations are so important to the regional industry.

Then the Keynote Speaker, Sir Digby Jones took to the stage. Sir Digby has always had a passion for opening up opportunities for young people, which he was always passionate about throughout his career at the CBI. “The Humber is just like the Savile Row of the Chemical Industry. The CATCH concept only helps with that image and adds weight for further reason to invest in the area.”

After the formal speeches, a working tour was provided to all the attendees. With the site being fully operational all attendees had to go through all of the normal safety procedures you would have to go though before entering a normal operating chemical site. The event was a great success and we'd like to thank all of the people involved in the event.
