European R&D Support Programme: FP7

We can help your organisation access European funding for research and development.

What is FP7?

With a budget of over €50 billion, Framework Programme 7 (FP7) is the European Commission’s main way of funding collaborative research and development and will run for seven years from January 1 2007.

What type of activities will FP7 fund?

Funding covers 4 specific programmes:-

  • People: Training & mobility of researchers throughout Europe, € 4.7bn
  • Capacities: Development of research infrastructures, support for SMEs and clusters, € 4.1bn

What scientific areas will FP7 fund?

The Cooperation programme for collaborative research is organised into 10 priority thematic areas:

  • Information & communication technologies € 9.1bn
  • Health € 6.1bn
  • Transport (including aeronautics) € 4.2bn
  • Nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials & new production technologies € 3.5bn

How can SMEs get involved?

Specific opportunities exist to support SMEs or SME associations in need of outsourcing research to Universities or research centres.

What is the process for applying?

Calls for proposals based around the priority thematic areas are published by the EC once or twice per year. Open for 3-5months, the calls invite the submission of project proposals.
