SportsAid Patrons Scheme
11/09/07 #Article/Catch

Written by Paul Lawrence of Humber Chemical Focus (click for more)

Humber Chemical Focus likes to support the regions talent and through The SportsAid's Patron’s Scheme, commercial businesses can directly support the people who need it most.

SportsAid is the charity for sports people, helping the next generation of British sporting talent to succeed. With financial support at a time when it is needed most, young talented athletes have a chance to realise their sporting potential and move on to the next level. SportsAid provides them with this chance.

We distribute grants to approx 1,500 able bodied and disabled sports people every year. Working in partnership with sports governing bodies, the best young talent in over 40 Olympic and non-Olympic sports are selected.

In the past 30 years we have supported many of the country’s sporting heroes including Sir Steven Redgrave, Dame Kelly Holmes, Amir Khan, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Lord Sebastien Coe, Paula Radcliffe, Sir Matthew Pinsent and Linford Christie.

With London 2012 fast approaching we are now in one of the most exciting periods in British sporting history. If you want to support emerging sporting talent in your region, you can through SportsAid.

The Patrons Scheme

The Patrons Scheme is an easy way for you to get involved in supporting the region’s top sporting talent. By donating an annual membership fee, you can help us provide grants to the most talented and deserving athletes in Yorkshire & Humberside. These grants help them to cope with the costs that come with competing and training at a high level such as travelling, training and equipment costs. Not only does our work help to ease financial pressure but a SportsAid grant gives athletes invaluable recognition of their potential, encouraging them to keep achieving their goals.

SportsAid, the Charity for Sport, is the only major organisation to work with sports governing bodies to identify the most talented athletes, in approximately 47 sports including disability sports, at a time when they are not eligible to receive funding from other sources such as the Lottery. As a registered charity, SportsAid does not distribute lottery money and is not funded by Government. Every grant we give out uses money raised from our supporters.

You can make a difference to the work we do and the future of British sport by joining our Patrons Scheme. There are three ways to become a member:

HCF are in the process of trying to build links with the local sports and social clubs, to promote the region as a great place to live, work and play. If your company in the Humber Chemical Cluster is involved in any sports activities, please feed these back to the HCF office.
