Interested in Supply Chain Excellence?

I am a full-time PhD research scholar at the University of Hull Logistics Institute. I joined the University of Hull in October 2006 after completing my MBA at the University of Nottingham Business School. Prior to joining Nottingham I worked for a number of years in industry in China, including chemical and automotive sectors.

I am currently doing a research entitled “Supply Chain Excellence and Its Impact on The Regional Economy”. I am interested in investigating the nature and extent of supply chain excellence in Yorkshire and Humber Region. I am also interested in how the local stakeholders can contribute to supply chain excellence and trying to examine how supply chain excellence impacts on the company performance and the regional economy.

Why supply chain excellence? Current SCM are facing issues such as the loss of investment, increasing unemployment, damage to local economies and lack of sustainability. The issues have raised the question of how to balance the firm’s profitability and the stakeholders’ interests. It is assumed that SCE can tackle current SCM issues for the benefit of local stakeholders.

Objective of supply chain excellence

  • to establish what is meant by supply chain excellence
  • to propose ways of implementing SCE to improve a firm’s performance for the regional development
  • to examine SCE’s benefits to the regional economy.

Research questions. To achieve the objectives of this research, the research questions are formulated as follows:

  1. What is supply chain excellence from a regional business practitioner’ perspective?
  2. Who are the stakeholders influencing the regional supply chain?
  3. What should be the KPIs for supply chain excellence?
  4. What are the factors that will assist in achieving supply chain excellence?
  5. To what extent can supply chain excellence be of benefit to the regional economy?
  6. What is the framework to achieve supply chain excellence?
  7. How can supply chain excellence strategies be implemented?

Any suggestions and comments on the research topic, the research questions and ideas to help with the answers to the questions are appreciated. Please feel free to contact Mengying Feng for further discussion.
